Four-Legged Mother's Love an Italian Fable by Franco di Blasi

As a result of his parents having been killed by some hunters who were to blame, a bear cub named Pepè found himself an orphan.

In the den where he lived he was safe, but hunger quickly made itself felt making him throw caution to the winds. The long absence of mamma and papa bear made him realize that it was time for him to grow up. So, he abandoned his much loved and safe lair and he went out to scavenge for nuts and berries.  But the wolves and coyotes didn't even give him a chance to taste the food.

Because of this, scurrying left and right, Pepè found himself on the road to Pupù, the city of unwanted animals, to prevent himself from becoming extinct.  How peaceful it was!……And how beautiful!

Upon arriving in Pupù, Pepè encountered two very, very white St. Bernard puppies: their names were Pipì and Popò, the pups of Sasà.

Pepè was all black, but Pipì and Popò didn't even notice it.  For them the important thing was that they had a new playmate.

At sunset, Pipì and Popò made their way back home to mamma Sasà, taking Pepè along with them. When she saw him, her first reaction was concern, but then she couldn't help but embrace him in her loving paws.

<<Who cares about his color!!>> she thought to herself.

Thanks to Sasà's love, that nursed him and took loving care of him, Pepè lived happy and contented together with his new brothers, Pipì and Popò, in the city of the animals mankind no longer loves.

In fact, as opposed to mankind, animals aren't prejudiced.  And besides, a mother's love has no color…but so much love.
