Two Brothers Conflict
Once, two brothers lived on adjoining farms. For 40 years, they worked side by
side—sharing tools, labor, and helping one another without a second thought.
But one day, a small misunderstanding sparked a disagreement. It grew into
harsh words... then silence.
One morning, a carpenter knocked on
the older brother’s door.
"I'm looking for some work. Got
anything I can help with?"
The older brother thought for a
moment and said, “Yes. Do you see that farm across the creek? That belongs to
my younger brother. Last week, he diverted the river to separate our land. It
was petty. So I want you to build me an 8-foot fence—tall enough that I never
have to see him again.”
The carpenter nodded. “I understand.
Just show me where the tools are.”
The older brother left for the day,
and the carpenter went to work—measuring, sawing, hammering.
By sunset, the job was done. But
when the older brother returned, he froze in disbelief.
There was no fence.
Instead, a sturdy wooden bridge stretched across the creek—complete with handrails.
And walking across that
bridge, with his hand extended, was his younger brother.
“You built this after everything I
said and did?” he asked.
The older brother met him in the
middle. They shook hands.
Just then, the carpenter hoisted his
toolbox onto his shoulder.
“Wait,” said the older brother. “I
have more projects for you.”
The carpenter smiled. “I’d love to
stay... but I have more bridges to build.”
