Fear vs. Rational Concern

Years ago, I went to a chiropractor for an evaluation. He had noticed on a previous visit that the toes in my feet were not sitting right.   He took some tests and later I went back for his report.   He proceeded to give me a run down of what was wrong with me and then told me what could happen to me if I didn’t allow him to treat me.  Fear!  Fear!

I got out of there real quick and went to another chiropractor friend of mine.  She asked me, has your foot situation really bothered you?  I said, No.  Well then, she advised me, go get a pair of insoles and forget about it.  That was over 30 years ago, everybody.  I’m fine and still alive as of 2025 or I wouldn’t be doing this blog, obviously.

Turns out, based on what happened when I was billed, that this fellow was out for my money too.

What’s my point?    There’s a lot of fear mongering going on today.  Here’s a very small list of what they want us to worry about:

--Insurance for everything--car repairs, home repairs, life and accident, etc. etc.

       --Taxes

        --Our Credit Score

       --Cell phones and microwave ovens

       --Seat belts

       --Identity theft

And if you need more to worry about, are a lot of medical issues that you’re supposed to ask your doctor about: cholesterol, weight, bone loss, hair loss, gum problems, toe nail status—the list is endless.  If you’re in need of a little fear today, just turn on the TV or radio.

And didn’t FDR say that we have nothing to fear but fear itself?  I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned.  But there’s a lot of difference between rational concern and fear!

On another note, have you ever noticed that fearful people seem to be followed around by negative stuff?  Could it be that their fear magnetizes stuff and draws it to them?

How much negativity do we want in our lives?  So when those pushy commercials pester us and try to manipulate us through fear, maybe we should do something positive, like turn off the TV and grab a cup of coffee.  I’m going to enjoy my cup of coffee even if some so-called “authority” or “expert” says coffee’s bad for my health.
