The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked.
As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old
man was walking and the boy was riding. The man thought maybe they were right,
so he took the boy down and got up on the donkey.
Later, they passed people who remarked, "What a shame, the man rides and
makes the little boy walk." So the
man decided they both would walk.
Soon they passed other people who thought the two were silly to walk
when they had a good, strong donkey to ride. So, they both got up on the
donkey.
Then they
passed other folks that shamed them by saying how awful it was to put such a
load on a poor donkey.
The man thought they might be right, so they man and boy began to carry the
donkey. The people passing by exclaimed, “What a ridiculous sight!”
Not knowing what to next, the boy and the man continued walking carrying the donkey.
As they
crossed a bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and
it fell into the river and drowned.
No matter what solution you come up with, someone is bound to criticize you or give you suggestions you don’t ask for. Like the donkey who fell into the river and drowned, if you try to please everyone, you might as well kiss your, er, ah, “donkey,” good-bye.
