WHAT’S IN THE FOOD YOU’RE EATING AT RESTAURANT AND FAST FOOD PLACES?

Restaurants and fast food places that focus on food appearance and taste are not generally giving you the whole story in their ads and promotions, and the food they serve is not necessarily healthy.

Here are a few of the things I suggest you ask them.

·        What are the individual ingredients in their food?

·        Where do they get those ingredients? Where do they come from?

·        Are those ingredients washed carefully or peeled before cooking or being served?

·        Do those ingredients include any additives like artificial flavoring and coloring or taste enhancers like MSG?

·        Are there genetically modified (GMO) or bio-engineered items in the ingredients?

·        Are they using real butter or margarine and calling it butter?

·        Are they frying in old, recycled oil?  When did they last change it?

·        Is that real half ‘n’ half coffee cream from a cow or is it artificial creamer with hydrogenated oil from a factory?

·        What pots and pans are they using?  Aluminum pans and aluminum foil are suspect since aluminum can react with food, especially with tomato-based sauces.

·        Do they cook in stainless steel, not in blackened sauté pans or questionable non-stick ones?

·        Much of the food at restaurants and also in supermarkets is adulterated with fillers and ingredients.  For example, is that hamburger or meat loaf extended with fillers such as soy?

·        Does the supermarket ice cream have a bio-engineered ingredient in it?  Is that something you want to eat?

·        Why do those “old fashioned” cookies have 25 ingredients in them?  Did your grandma’s cookies have 25 ingredients in them?

These are just a few of my thoughts I wanted to share with you, going back to my Boccone’s and Bambino Huey restaurant days.  Comments welcome.
