Are You a Chicken or an Eagle?
An eagle egg fell out of a nest and rolled on down the hill into a farmer's barnyard where the chickens were nesting. Mother Hen didn't notice it wasn't hers and, in the course of things sat on the eagle egg along with her own until they'd all hatched.
Though the baby eagle didn't look quite like the others, no one seemed to notice as he pecked around with all the chicks, doing exactly what they were doing. Under Mother Hen's watchful eye, they were growing up into a fine brood.
One day an eagle swooped across the barn yard. Baby eagle asked, "Mamma, what was that?" "An eagle," said Mother Hen. "I'd sure like to soar like that," exclaimed baby eagle. "Well, you're a chicken and chicken's can't fly. Be content with who you are and keep on pecking."
Well, everybody, here's a bird with all the equipment to fly--it's his nature. And he's being told that he can't do it.
What is this story telling us?
Is it possible we're all suffering from a widespread case of amnesia, having forgotten somewhere back there who we really are?
Did we dress up this morning in chicken feathers? Are we suffering from the delusions of culture and society, trapped in a view of ourselves that others have imposed upon us? Or do we have a sense that we are something more, something grand and glorious!
In other words, are we chickens destined to peck in the dirt or are we destined to soar far above this earthly world on eagles wings?
Is it possible that those who have accomplished great things have really discovered the secret?
